History
The Entomological Society of Lund [ESIL] was founded in 1903. It is Sweden’s second oldest entomological society (next to the Stockholm society). It is open to anyone interested in insects and arachnids and holds ca 250 members. Its main purpose is to support the public interest of entomology and take an active part in developing the subject on various levels of interest. This is carried out primarily through public meetings, excursions, guidings, expert offers, publications and grants. The Society previously edited and published the journal ’Opuscula Entomologica’ (1936-69) and its supplements. Several famous Swedish entomologists headed ESIL during the previous century, among them Simon Bengtsson, Nils Alarik Kemner, Kjell Ander, Carl H. Lindroth, Hugo Andersson, Bengt-Olof Landin, Ingvar Svensson and Per Douwes.
Most welcome as a member of ESIL!
